This Privacy Policy explains how Matchups LLC ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the MATCHUPS app.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information. When you register, we collect your name, email address, and optional profile information such as your golf handicap.
Game and Competition Data. We collect golf scores, round history, course selections, tournament participation, and head-to-head records as part of operating the Service.
User Content. When you upload photos or videos ("Moments"), we store that content in association with your account.
Usage and Diagnostic Data. We automatically collect device information, app version, and crash reports to help us keep the app running reliably.
Location Data. With your permission, we collect GPS data during rounds to power distance-to-hole and nearby course features. This data is used in real-time and is not stored after your session ends. You can revoke location permission in your device settings at any time.
2. AI Avatar Feature
This section is important. Please read it before using the avatar feature.
When you submit a photo to generate an AI avatar, here is exactly what happens:
- Your photo is temporarily uploaded to our secure cloud storage.
- Your photo is transmitted to FAL.ai and Remove.bg for AI processing. These are the third-party providers that power the avatar generation feature.
- Your generated avatar is saved to your profile.
- Your original submitted photo is not retained beyond what is needed to complete processing.
By using the avatar feature, you consent to your photo being sent to and processed by FAL.ai and Remove.bg. Each provider operates under its own privacy policy, which governs how they handle your image data once received.
We do not use your photos to train AI models. We do not sell your image to any third party. This feature is optional. You can use MATCHUPS without it.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Operate and improve the Service.
- Display your profile, scores, and Moments to users you compete with.
- Process AI avatar requests.
- Send important account notifications.
- Diagnose errors and improve performance.
4. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information.
With other users. Your display name, avatar, scores, and shared Moments are visible to other MATCHUPS users as a core part of the social features.
With service providers. We work with third-party vendors to operate the Service, such as cloud storage, database infrastructure, and error monitoring. These providers access only the information necessary to perform their functions.
For AI avatar generation. As described in Section 2, your photo is shared with FAL.ai and Remove.bg when you use the avatar feature.
For legal reasons. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
5. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on third-party cloud infrastructure located in the United States. We implement reasonable security measures including encrypted data transmission and access controls. No security system is perfect, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Your Choices
- Account data. You can update your profile information within the app at any time.
- Avatar. You can delete your AI-generated avatar from your profile settings at any time.
- Location. You can disable GPS access in your device settings.
- Account deletion. You can delete your account through the app settings, which removes your personal data from our systems.

7. Children's Privacy
MATCHUPS is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently done so, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
8. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll notify you of material changes through the app or by email. Continued use after changes are posted constitutes acceptance.
